Ayyankunnu is a village in Kannur district in the state of Kerala, India. Formed on 25/10/1985. Ayyankunnu is a scenic hill station spread over an area of 7792.5700 hectares. The Village Office is located at Angadikkadavu, Ayyankunnu derives its name from the confluence of five hills.Ayyankunnu is located on the border of the state of Karnataka. The famous Barapol Hydroelectric Project is located in this village

As per the Census India 2011, Ayyankunnu village has population of 29328 of which 14438 are males and 14890 are females. Geography
Ayyankunnu is a hilly village on the eastern side of Kannur district. The terrain is undulating in nature and the extreme eastern side has forests bordering Karnataka state.

The Barapole Small Hydro Electric Project is a small hydro project of the Kerala State Electricity Board. The project is on the Barapol river which separates Ayyankunnu Grama Panchayat in Iritty taluk of Kannur district . The power house of the project is located at Palathinkadavu near Koottupuzha. The Barapol hydropower project is wholly owned by KSEB.
