Sree Vayathur Kaliyar Temple

Sree Vayathur Kaliyar Shiva Temple situated at Ulikkal near Iritty on the Kerala-Karnataka border is a temple famous for the symbol of the bond between two different peoples. The temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is managed by a trust comprising the Malayali and Kodava communities. The temple celebrates a 14-day `Oottu' festival annually in the Malayalam month of Makaram (January).

About Village

Vayathur is a village located in Iritty Taluk of Kannur district in Kerala. Vayathur village is one of the eastern villages of Iritty taluk. The northern part borders Kodagu. It is a village consisting mainly of hilly areas. The main source of income is agriculture.Rubber is the major crop. Coconut, cashew, squash and vegetables are the other major crops. There is also paddy cultivation in low lying areas. Livestock is also another source of income. Hindus, Christians and Muslims have been living in mutual religious harmony.

As per the Census India 2011, Vayathur village has population of 33173 of which 16289 are males and 16884 are females.
