About Village

Kolayad Village was part of Kottayam Taluk of Erstwhile Malabar District of British India. Its now one of the Village in Thalassery Taluk of Kannur District. Kolayad Village is situated in Kolayad Grama Panchayat and Mattannur Legislative Assembly and in Kannur Loksabha Constituency.

Geography

Village office lies near the mountain range that separates Kannur District from Wayanad district.

Socio-Economic

Kolayad Village has diverse populace with different socioeconomic background. It varies from daily labourers to working abroad professionals. Among the tribal population, many are employed in government sector. Rubber, Cashew, Pepper etc are cultivated here. Compared to other parts of Kerala immigrant labourers are less employed here. A few plantations and stone crusher units also function here.

Ecology

Village is moderately populated. Forest is thick with taek trees and bamboo plants.

Tourism

Kannavam Reserve Forest, Peruva . Some parts of the movies like Pazhassi Raja and Bahubali were shot here.
