About Village
Dharmapattanam, also known as Dharmapattanam or Poyanad, was one of the ten independent princely states which were separated from the Kolathunadu Swaroop by internal strife due to internal strife. Dharmadatta is one of the ten churches built in Kerala during the reign of Malik Dinar. Dharmadam was also an area heavily influenced by Buddhism. The area has been described by Arabs, Jews and Portuguese for centuries. A D In 1734 Dharmadam came under the direct control of the British. The Village Office Building is located at Meethale Peedika on the Thalassery-Kannur National Highway.

Geography
Dharmadam Village is located in Thalassery Taluk, Kannur District, about 3 km north of Thalassery town. The village is geographically reminiscent of an island bordered by three parts Ancharakandi river and one part Arabian Sea. Dharmadam shares borders with Muzhappilangad in Kannur taluk and Pinarayi and Thalassery villages in Thalassery taluk. The total area of the village is 10.68 sq km. four desoms. 1. Melur 2. Socio-Economic
In the densely populated Dharmadam, people belonging to the Hindu, Muslim, Christian and religious communities are living in religious harmony. The majority of the people made a living by beedi fighting, fishing, wage labor and the circus. One of the oldest colleges in Kerala, Govt. Brennan College is located here. The role played by this college in the educational and social development of the region is unparalleled. The Andalurkavu festival is based on the story of Ramayana and is one of the most important places of worship in district.
Ecology
It is bordered by seas and rivers and is mostly low lying above sea level, with fields, wetlands and mangrove forests.
