About Village

Koodali is a town located in the Thalassery Taluk, Kannur district of Kerala, India. The entire area under Koodali Panchayat under Iritty Block Panchayat was earlier under Koodali Village. But later Koodali village was divided and Pattanur village was formed. Koodali Village currently comprises of Muttannur, Moolakari, Koodali, Thattiode, Kumbham, Kavumthaze, Banganapparambu, Poovvathoor and Kololam wards of Koodali Grama Panchayat. The Koodali Village Office was located in a private building at Kumbham, Mattannur Road, Kannur. Later, the Village Office got its own land and building and the present Government of Kerala has renovated the building under the Smart Village Office Scheme.

Demography

According to the 2011 census, the total population of Koodali Village is 15236 including 8162 women and 7074 men. Of these, 80.3% belong to the Hindu sect, 19.5% to the Muslim sect and 0.20% to the Christian sect.

Geography

The total land area of Koodali Village is 1615.97 ha, comprising of 5 desoms namely Thattiot, Koodali, Kavumthaze, Poovvathoor and Muttannur. Koodali village shares borders with Kanjirode under Kannur taluk, Ancharakandi, Kuttyattur under Taliparamba taluk, Maniyoor and Keezhallur and Pattanur under Thalassery taluk.

Socio-Economic

Koodali Village is inhabited by an average social and economic population. Most of the people make a living from farming and wage labor. There are no large scale industries, no large scale enterprises or large shopping malls in this rural area. Koodali Higher Secondary School, Concord College and Muttannur, one of the most popular educational institutions in Kannur district, are located within the limits of Koodali Village.

Ecology

Most of the area falls under plantation, backyard and field areas. The canal of the Pazhassi Irrigation Project passes through this village.
