About Village

Perumpazhuthoor is a village in Neyyattinkara taluk in Thiruvanthapuram district. It is located about 24 km away from Thiruvananthapuram city, the capital city of Kerala. It belongs to Neyyattinkara municipality. It comes under Neyyattinkara Legislative Assembly Constituency. Resurvey was completed in this village in 1998. This village contains lands coming under Resurvey Block No. 24. Total area is 962 hectares. This village is situated in the western side of the Neyyar river, which is the south-most river in Kerala State. Most of the places are plane areas. Ponds, Thodu, canals and river are also present. The majority of the people in this villages are farmers, daily labourers and small - scale traders. Aruvippuram is a place in this village, which is famous for the Shiva temple established by Sri Narayana Guru. The Guru consecrated the Siva idol, the first non brahmin to do so in Kerala society, in the year 1888. Aruvippuram Sivarathri is a very popular event attended by a large number of devotees and followers of Guru. Shivarathri also marks the anniversary of the Aruvippuram Shiva temple. Kodithooki Mala is a rocky hill nearby the Aruvippuram Shiva temple. There is a cave on top of this hill, where Guru used to visit for rest, solitariness and meditation. SNDP Yogam is formed at Aruvippuram, which was a historical event in Kerala history.
