Puthenvelikara Village Office is situated at ‘ Puthenvelikkara Kara ‘ far about 100 metre west side from Bazar Junction. According to the 2001 census Puthevelikkara has a population of 32215 people. The province such as Kurisingal,Thuruthippuram,Thuruthoor,Panjipalla,Karottukara,Manancherikunnu,Vattekattukunnu,Keezhupadam, Kodikuthiyakunnu,Elenthikara,Kanakkankadavu,Cherukadappuram,Thelathuruthu, Kozhithuruthu,Chowkakadavu,Malavana,Stationkadavu,Cheriyathekkanam and some small islands together form the village of Puthenvelikkara.

Demography

Puthenvelikara Village shares the boundaries with Parakadavu Village of Aluva Taluk and Kunnukara Village of Paravur Taluk in the East and Kunnukara,Karumalloor,Chendamangalam Villages of Paravur Taluk in the South and Methala Village of Kodungallur Taluk in the West and Poyya,Madathumpadi Villages of Kodungallur Taluk and Thirumukkulam Village of Mukundapuram Taluk in the North.Peaceful co-existence of Hindu,Christian and Muslim Communities make this Village a role model for the entire state.

Geography

Puthenvelikara Village is water logged with three sides.The Chalakudy river merges with the Periyar river at the place named “Chowka” in Elanthikara.Puthenvelikara is on the banks of the rivers Periyar,Chalakudy and Kottappuram lagoon.It is a centre of agricultural production on the region with its many rice paddy fields.Puthenvelikara is situated on a road connecting Paravur with Mala.An ancient belief is that the formation of village is a result of High tide(Veliyettam) derived from ‘Puthen-Veli-Kara” and this belief is proven by the existence of fossils of acquatic beings found on the Village.Puthenvelikara has a natural water logged ornamental girdle of Periyar river on the South-West sides and Chalakudy river on the East side and Kottappuram Kayal,Thrissur district on the Northern side

Socio-Economic

Archeological survey of India had confirmed by examining the ‘Nannangadikal’ found at Elanthikara due to the excavations,there was human inhabitants in the ancient -stone age.The St.Francis Assissi Church established in AD 1531,St.Thomas Church Thuruthoor,ancient St.Thomas Church North Kuthiyathodu are situated in this Village.The famous scholars such as ‘Travancore Manual ‘writer Kuttikattumadathil Divan Peshkar Sankunny Menon,’Kerala History ‘ writer Kuttikattumadathil Sri.Padmanabha Menon are born and brought up in Puthenvelikara.The first educational institution in Puthenvelikara was established in 1921 named ‘Peshkar Divan Sankunny Menon Memmorial Lower Primary School” founded by Sri.A.G.Menon.Kuttikattu Madam and Njattyala Mana are the two famous ancient land lord families in Puthenvelikara Educational Instituations : Colleges 1. Puthenvelikara is surrounded by water bodies such as rivers and lagoons.It resulted on the formation of fertile lands suited for cultivation.Puthenvelikara has a wide bio-diversity such as ‘large paddy fields’-high range ‘Kunnu-hills’ Periyar -Chalakudy rivers,Kottappuram Kayal,small islands,several fertile lands and other water bodies

Tourism

The St.Thomas fame Church at Thuruthoor is a large Christian pilgrimage centre in Puthenvelikara.The Malavana Shiva Temple known as ‘Thekkan Kasi’ is an another Hindu pilgrimage centre. A large number of Hindu-devotees are arrived at the time of ‘Karkidaka-Vavu-Bali’ in this Temple.Thazhanchira padasekaram is known as the lungs of Puthenvelikara.Lot of visitors are coming here to see the natural beauty and refreshment.
