About Village

Three royal families ruled Azhikode before Indipendence, Chirakkal, Thekkanmar and Arakkal. The Azhikode village divided into Azhikode South and Azhikode North in 1985.

Demography

Azhikode South has population of 25195 of which male population is 11369 and female population is13826 as per the census 2011 data.

Valapattanam river flows through this village.

Socio-Economic

The people in the village are middle class and poor. There are fishermen, retailers, Govt employees, beedi workers, handloom weavers, factory workers and farmers among the people. A large number of people migrated to Middle East and returned after their fifties. Theyyam is the main folk art in the village.There are 62 temples in the village. The place is the birth place of Sukumar Azhikode, the famous literary figure and M T Kumaran Master, the famous orator. The Athmavidya Sangam is the oldest cultural organisations in the village.

Ecology

The village is the one of the coastal villages in Kannur district. The west side of the village is Arabian Sea.
