About Village

Edava Village Office is one of the basic unit of Thiruvananthapuram District revenue administration in Varkala Taluk. Edava is a village and it is located 5km north of Varkala, 21km south of port city Kollam and 44km north of capital city.

Demography

As of 2001 India census, Edava had a population of 26,903, with 12,292 males and 14,611 females.

Geography

This village is on the northwest boundary of Thiruvananthapuram district adjacent to the Arabian Sea and situated between two municipalities, Varkala to the south and Paravur to the north. The railway line between Trivandrum and Kollam passes through this village. Edava may be the only village in Kerala with two railway stations: Edava and Kappil. There is a road (TA Majeed Road) connecting Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram.

Socio-Economic

The people of the village represent several different religions and different political parties, but are friendly and co operative. Malayalam is the Local Language here. The people are generally employed in the service sector. A large proportion of them work outside India.

Ecology

The terrain of the village comprise of residential areas and agricultural lands.

Tourism

Edava is a long expanded coastal village and located north of the tourist spot Varkala. It has cliffs, serene beaches and backwaters with its canals and lakes. The main beach areas are Odayam, Manthara, Vettakadda and Kappil. Slowly the tourisme develops on the seaside.
