Chowannur Village is a small Village situated 3.8 KM away from Kunnamkulam Mini Civil Station on the way to Wadakkanchery from Kunnamkulam Town.Area of chowannur vilage is about 776.8405 Hect.Area of jurisdiction 1to4 , 5 part,12 part and 13part wards in chowannur Grama Panchayath and 8part,9,10,11part,12,13part and 14part in kunnamkulam municipality.

Demography

As of 2011 indian census,chowannur had a population of 6907 with 3244 males and 3663 females.The approximate statistics of births and deaths are available in chowannur gramapanchayath and kunnamkulam muncipality.

Geography

chowannur village is boardered by chiramanangad in the east ,west kunnamkulam and kanippayyur,north pokkulam,akathiyoor and south chemmanthitta,kanippayyur.

Socio-Economic

The people of the village represent different religions and different political parties, but they are friendly and co-operative. Major part of the population of the chowannur village depends on business and agriculture for their livelihood.

Ecology

The area comprises of paddy fields and Areca nut etc.Groundwater is the main source of water in the area.

Tourism

Chowannur Burial Cave is a prehistoric Megalithic rock cut cave situated in Chowannur. It is entered through a recessed opening on the east. The other sides of its chamber are circular and its vault hemispherical. On its northern and southern sides are two benches and there are five circular blocks along the western side of the chamber, which appear to be intended as stands for vessels. Archaeological Survey of India has declared this cave as centrally protected monument.
