Vellayur is a large village located in Nilambur Taluka of Malappuram district, Kerala with total 5106 families residing. The Vellayur village has population of 25906 of which 12240 are males while 13666 are females as per Population Census 2011. Vellayur Village is is surrounded by Kalikavu and Thuvvur villages at the East And Kalikavu and Wandoor villages at the North side,Wandoor and Porur villags at the West side And Thuvvur and Chembrasseri villages At the South side.

In Vellayur village out of total population, 6687 were engaged in work activities. 77.48 % of workers describe their work as Main Work (Employment or Earning more than 6 Months) while 22.52 % were involved in Marginal activity providing livelihood for less than 6 months. Of 6687 workers engaged in Main Work, 325 were cultivators (owner or co-owner) while 831 were Agricultural labourer.
