About Village
Mundakkayam is the Gateway to the Highranges of Idukki District. The noted missionary Henry Baker has a remarkable influence in the making of Mundakkayam. He started the first English Medium School in Mundakkayam in 1840s. This transformed the education system from conventional to the modern. Moreover, this place played an important role in the history of education to oppressed, underprivileged and the marginalized. Later, this planted seeds of progressive movements in plantation labour sector. Mundakkayam is proud to be associated as the place which shaped the legendary actor Thilakan with its art and cultural activities.
