Kunkichira

The Periya forest range in Wayanad has several important places that are associated with Pazhassi Raja and the guerrilla warfare he conducted against the British. It is said that Pazhassi’s troops camped in the vicinity of Kunkichira in Periya Reserve Forest, planned and executed different military strategies against the English force. Beyond two mountain peaks from Kunkichira, lies the “Ottupara” where the Pazhassi Raja army was betrayed. Even today it is a wilderness. The house of Thalakkal Chandu, archer and Commander-in-Chief of Pazhassi’s army, is also situated in this historical place.

Meenmutty falls

Meenmutty Falls is located 29 km from Kalpetta in Wayanad District in the state of Kerala, India.It is a three-tiered waterfall with a height of 300 metres.Meenmutty is a combination of Malayalam words Meen (fish) and Mutty (blocked). Meenmutty Falls can be accessed from Mananthavady - Kuttiady road . Meenmutty waterfalls are dangerous during rainy seasons due to high inflow and many people have drowned since 1991.Meenmutty falls is surrounded by Lush green tea plantations making the hike to the falls a memorable experience to the tourists.

Thondernad is a village in Wayanad district in the state of Kerala, India.

Demography

As of 2001 India census, Thondernad had a population of 11092 with 5642 males and 5450 females.

Geography

The total geographical area of village is 9516 hectares.

Socio-Economic

Agriculture is the backbone of the economy of the Village. Most of the lands in the area are used for agriculture purpose. More than half of its population are encaged in agriculture in order to earn their livelihood. Another source of economy in the Village is the cattle Farming.

Ecology

Wayanad district in Kerala is part of the Western Ghats which is one the biodiversity hot spots of the world. The western slopes of the Ghats have a natural cover of evergreen forest, which changes to moist and then dry deciduous types as one comes to the eastern slopes. The vegetation reaches its highest diversity towards the southern tip in Kerala with its high statured, rich tropical rain forests.
