Kulasekharapuram is a village in Kulasekharapuram Grama Panchayath in Kollam District. The panchayath consists of two villages namely, Kulasekharapuram and Adinadu in which Kulasekharapuram village is the prominent one.

Demography

The Kulashekharapuram Census Town has population of 26,907 of which 12,691 are males and 14,216 are females as per Census India 2011. Population of Children with age of 0-6 is 2833 which is 10.53% of total population of Kulashekharapuram Census Town. Literacy rate is 93.07% .

Geography

Kulasekharapuram village is situatd almost in the north - west side of Kollam district. In the north eastern side the village shares borders with Alappuzha district. In the western side it shares borders with the T.S Canal.

Socio-Economic

In earlier times the main source of livelihood of people of Kulasekharapuram village was agriculture. Paddy, coconut, sesame, tapioca, vegetables etc were main crops cultivated. Now due to the increase in population and influence of foreign money there is a reduction in the extent of agricultural land. At present majority of people earn their livelihood from manual labour. Rest of the population includes Government employees, NRI’s, fishermen etc.

Ecology

The land in this village is suitable for the cultivation of crops like paddy, coconut, sesame, tapioca and vegetables. Village receives very good rain fall.

Tourism

Village shares its border with TS Canal in the western side which is a major part of the back water tourism in Kerala. Thurayilkadavu and Vallikkavu are two major points in the National waterways project. From Vallikkavu across T.S Canal is the shortest way to the famous Amrithapuri from NH 66.
