About Village

Puthuvype village was established in 1984 after a bifurcation of Elamkunnappuzha village. The new building under smart village office project was inaugurated on 25/05/2020 which is the first of its kind in Kochi Taluk.

Demography

As per 2011 Census total population of Puthuvype village is 23,717 with Female population greater than the male population. Believers of various religions resides here with harmony.

Geography

Puthuvype is a coastal village in the southern tip of Vypin Island surrounded by Arabian Sea in the western side and Vembanad lake in the eastern and southern sides. Its Northern side is Elamkunnappuzha Village. Gundu Island is also a part of this village. The RMP Canal is flowing through Puthuvype Village.

Socio-Economic

Most of the people are fishermen. There are two fishing harbours in the region. LNG Terminal is situated in Puthuvype from where GAIL Pipeline is starting. There is also large storage tanks of petroleum product. There are many proposed industrial projects related to petroleum products.

Ecology

The western side of the village is mostly formed by the departure of sea. There is lot of Mangroves in the area and also mixed vegetation. The eastern side of the village has lot of coconut trees and waterlogged bodies.

Tourism

Puthuvype Beach is a small but beautiful beach. Main attraction of Puthuvype village is Puthuvype Light House; which is one of the tallest lighthouses in India. There is also a proposal for an Oceanarium. There also a proposal for Mangrove Research Centre by KUFOS.
