About Village

Karunapuram is one of the 18 villages under Udumbanchola Taluk in Idukki District. Karunapuram village passes through State Highway 40 (Kerala) which connects it with major towns of Idukki, Kottayam and Alappuzha districts. The nearest towns are Nedumkandam, Kattappana and Cumbum which are equidistant from Karunapuram village. Famous tourist places like Rammakalmedu is in this village

As of 2011 Indian census, Karunapuram panchayat had a population of 26,637 with 13,163 males and 13,474 females.

Geography

It has a hilly terrain with a cool and warm climate and is situated 11 km away from sub-district headquarter Nedumkandam and 48 km away from district headquarter Painavu and mostly surrounded by Cardamom Plantation. It shares boundary with Theni District of Tamilnadu and connects Cumbum town through Karunapuram Cumbum Road

Socio-Economic

Various sections of Christianity, Hinduism and Muslims co-exist harmoniously. Income is mainly from Tourism and Cardamom Plantation.
