Vakkom is an area of Thiruvavathapuram Metropolitan Area near Kadakkavoor in Thirivanathapuram District of Kerala ,India.it is 35 KM north of Capital city of Kerala.Vakkom Village is surrounded by back waters(kayal) ,Neighbouring local bodies are Anchuthengu,Kadakkavoor,Vettoor,Cherunniyoor and Manampoor.The village is with in 9 km from Varkala and 11 km from Attingal. Nearest Railway station Kadakkavoor(1km) Total area of vakkom panchayath is 5.06 km2 and Total Area of Vakkom Village is 484.86 heacters . Vakkom Moulavi (1873 - 1932), Islamic renaissance leader, social reformer, Muslim scholar, Educationist and the founder of Swadeshabhimani newspaper. Vakkom Majeed (1909-2000), Indian freedom fighter, politician and a former member of the Travancore-Cochin State Assembly. INA Hero Khader (1917-1943), Indian freedom fighter and Indian National Army member who hanged by the British Government in 1943. Vakkom Purushothaman (1928-), Indian Politician, former governor of Mizoram and Andaman and Nicobar Islands were legends gave birth by this Land. Vakkom village was formed by bifurcating Kadakkavoor Village in the 1986.Anchuthengu vilage was formed in the year 2015 by Including the area of vakkom village come under the Anchuthengu Panchayath.Now Vakkom village Exclusively come under the area of Vakkom panchayath. Vakkom is a village in churayinkeezhu Block in Thiruvanathapura district in Kerala state India.It is located 35 Km towards North from District head quarters .Three side of the village is surrounded by backwater (T.S canal and Anjuthengu Kayal) .Panayil kadavu Bridge connect Vakkom to Varkkala. Most part of the village is plane land.As the influence of back waters many part of the village have formed small pond called Kayal vattom.
