About Village

Ramanthali Village Office is located about 3 km south of Payyanur Railway Station.The Arabian Sea lies to the south and west, and the Kawwai River to the north and west. Local body is Ramanthali Grama Panchayat.The panchayat has a total of 15 wards. The Ezhimala Naval Academy, the largest naval training center in Asia, is located in this village. The village also houses the largest statue of Hanuman in Kerala and the Ettikulam beach which attracts a large number of tourists.The total area of ​​the village is 7414.26 hectares. Of this, 2477.34 ha was transferred to the Naval Academy and the remaining 4936.92 ha is the village area. There are 18 polling stations and 5 polling locations.

As of 2001 India census, Ramanthali had a population of 21937 with 10173 males and 11764 females

Geography

Ezhimala is a hillock, which is 286 m high, that rises above the beautiful beach here. Carved stone pillars and an ancient burial chamber can be seen at the foot of the hills. The hills are well known for their rare medicinal herbs.

Socio-Economic

Ramanthali inscriptions, also known as Ezhimala-Narayankannur inscriptions, are two medieval stone epigraphs from Ramanthali, near Ezhimala in Kannur district, Kerala. The first inscription, mentioning Mushika (Malayalam: Ezhimala) Validhara Vikrama Rama and the merchant guild manigramam, is dated to 929 CE and the second inscription, mentioning Alupa king Kunda Alupa, is dated to 1075 CE. Both inscriptions are written in old Malayalam with Vattezhuthu script (with some Grantha characters)

Ecology

Many rivers join nearby to drain into the Arabian sea. It is a marvel in terms of its rich mangroves and associated vegetation. It also attracts a lot of fish, crustaceans and birds into its bountiful and beautiful habitat.

Tourism

The statue at Anjaneya para is one of the tallest Hanuman statue in South India. This place is on a hill that makes the views even better.The Anjaneya Statue or the statue of lord Hanuman in Ezhimala hills is the tallest Hanuman statue in South India. The Anjaneya statue made of concrete is 41 feet tall and is situated on the upper part of Top raod. The place where the statue is situated is known as Anjaneya Giri. There is a small muthappan temple near the statue. Everyone can visit and worship the Anjaneya statue irrespective of caste or religion. The Hanuman statue has been drawing devotees even from Jammu and Kashmir. An ancient mosque on the hill is another draw. The Anjaneya statue and temple is about 215 meters above the sea on the on the eastern part of Ezhimala hills (a hill reaching a height of 286 metres), in the Ezhimala village of Ramanthali panchayat near Payyanur in Kannur district. Ezhimala was one of the major battlefields of the Chola-Chera war of the 11th century.
