Edakkara Village was formed during 1963–1964. Health centre, Registration office and Electricity office became a reality in 1981. A Lower Primary School which started in 1963, later went on to become a big private institution with several courses still functioning well.this village located in Malappuram district in Kerala. It is an emerging commercial hub, and one of the busiest towns in Nilambur Taluk.The town faces mountainous area to its east,and is geographically boarderd by two rivers

Demography

As per the Census India 2011, Edakkara village has population of 16964 of which 8165 are males and 8799 are females. The population of children between age 0-6 is 2198 which is 12.96% of total population. The sex-ratio of Edakkara village is around 1078 compared to 1084 which is average of Kerala state. The literacy rate of Edakkara village is 78.75% out of which 80.88% males are literate and 76.77% females are literate. There are 7.54% Scheduled Caste (SC) and 8.36% Scheduled Tribe (ST) of total population in Edakkara village.

Geography

Edakkara village is located in Nilambur Tehsil of Malappuram district in Kerala, India. It is situated 12km away from sub-district headquarter Nilambur and 38km away from district headquarter Malappuram. The total geographical area of village is 8388 hectares.

Socio-Economic

Edakkara has become one of the fastest emerging commercial hub of the District. Trade is the primary occupation, especially in textiles, groceries and automobiles. Rubber and Black Pepper are the primary crops along with rice and coconut. Remitted income from Persian Gulf countries has supported the development of Edakkara
