Chengalayi village is situated in Chengalayi grama panchayath in Thaliparamba taluk in Kannur district. The village Office situated near Chengalayi town.It belongs to North Kerala division. It is located 34 KM towards north from District head quarters Kannur,19 KM from Thaliparamba, 499 KM from State capital Thiruvananthapuram. Chengalayi village was a part of Chirakkal Taluk in Malabar district before the formation of Kerala state. Chengalayi village politically part of Irikkur Assembly constituency which belongs to Kannur Loksabha constituency. Chengalayi is the exporting center for the hill products like pepper, rubber,cashew etc

Chengalayi village is situated in north east side of kannur district. This village is sharing boundary with Sreekandapuram, Nidiyenga, Chuzhali,Kurumathur, Kayaralam, Malappattam. This village is the southern part of Chengalayi grama panchayath. Valapattanam river is flowing through the southern side of this village.

Village mainly produces paddy. rubber, cashew, plantain, Tapioca , Fishing etc.
