ANCHUTHENGU FORT

In 1694 The queen of Attingal granted the British East India Company, the right to establish a factory and fort at Anjengo . It was first trade settlement in Kerala. Anjengo fort was completed in 1695.The fort played an important role in the Anglo -Mysore wars in the 18th century. Fort served as a ammunition store during the Anglo - Mysore wars in the 18th century.

About Village

Anchuthengu formerly known as Anjengo, is a coastal village in Chirayinkeezhu block in Tvpm district of Kerala state.It is situated between Arabian Sea and Anchuthengu kayal.It is situated 9 km southwest of Varkala Town along Tvpm ,Varkala ,Kollam Coastal Highway.It is located 34 km towards west from district head quarters TVpm, 4 km from Chirayinkeezhu, 36 Km from state capital tvpm. Attingal, Chirayinkeezhu and Varkala are the nearby cities . The village contains old portuguese style churches , a light house , a 100 year old school, Tombs of Dutch and British sailors and soldiers. Kayikkara, the birth place of famous Malayalam poet Kumaran Asan is located in this village. Originally it was an old portuguese settlement between kollam and Thiruvananthapuram. It came into being on 22/09/2015.

Anchuthengu village is situated between Arabian sea and Anchuthengu kayal. Anchuthengu village is bordered by Anchuthengu kayal in the east , west Arabian sea, North Vettoore village, South Chirayinkeezhu Sarkara VIllage. In this Village there is a chance of humidity in the weather.The nearest Airport is Thiruvananthapuram International Airport. Kadakkavoor railway station is at 2.5 km away.
