Geography

Edayur is located in Kuttippuram Block in Malappuram district of the Indian state of Kerala, It belongs to North Kerala Division . It is located 27 KM South of district headquarters Malappuram.

Socio-Economic

Edayur chilli, a spiceless chilli variety from Edayur village in Malappuram has been granted the the Geographical Indication (GI) tag. Vadakkupuram, Edayur, Pookkattiri and Athippatta are the major places where this chilli is cultivated. Edayur chili is of high demand in Ernakulam and Thrissur districts during Onam season. This chilli is mainly used for making dried chilli fry (Mulaku Kondattam in Malayalam). Monnakkal juma masjid is located here. Offerings are made by Muslims but also from different religions. The sacred Lord Maha Shiva temple is located at Ambalacity which is about two kilometer from village office.
