Hosdurg is one of the most important urban Village in Hosdurg Taluk. A major part of the Kanhangad Municipal town falls under the jurisdiction of this village.

Geography

The Arayi Hills in the east, plain land including the Kanhangad Municipal town in the middle and the low lying coastal area in the west are the salient geographical features of the village.

Socio-Economic

The village is predominantly populated by Hindus and Muslims. In the township most of the families belongs to GSB, who are traditionally traders.

Ecology

No major ecological issues in the Village. Not an ecologically fregile land. But a large area of the village is waterlogged and wet land.

Tourism

Such historical monuments as Hosdurg Fort and Swami Nithyananda Ashram are the major tourist attractions in this village. Hosdurg Fort is a fort in Kanhangad which is part of Kasaragod district in Kerala state. Hosdurg Fort with its round bastion looks imposing from a distance. Somashekara Nayaka from the Keladi Nayaka dynasty of Ikkeri built this fort. The place is made well known by the Nithyanandasram with 45 caves. The fort is now in ruins, but located nearby is a school and some government offices. To the south-west of the fort is a temple that was also built by the Nayaks. The temple, dedicated to Shiva, is named the Poonkavanam Karpooreswara Temple.
