Kammadam Kavu Bhagavathi Temple

Kammadam Kavu in Bheemandy Village in Vellarikundu Taluk, Kasaragod district covered 54.7 acres of forest cover surrounded by paddy fields, arecanut, rubber and banana plantations. The fierce desire of the local community to preserve this grove keeps it protected.When the rainfall is sparse, crops and rivers on the outskirts dry up, whereas the streams inside this thick, tropical evergreen forest have always water flowing. The locals believe it’s because of Goddess living in the Kavu.

About Village

Bheemanady Village office was formed in 1985 as per GO(MS) No.842/85/RD dated 08.05.1985.village was formed bifurcating West Eleri village and the toal extent of Bheemanady village is 3941.3840 hectares. Village is situated partially in West Eleri and Kinanur- Karinthalam Panchayaths of Kasaragod District.

Demography

As per the Census of 2011 total population is 15688.Out of this 7582 are males and 8106 are females.

Geography

Major part of village are hill tract areas.It includes 268.6910 hectares of reserve forest.

Socio-Economic

About 10% of the population of Bheemanady village consists of Scheduled tribes..Main tribes are Malavettuan and Mavilan. Hindhu,Christian and Muslim believers are living unitedly in village. Most of the people are migrants from Southern districts.Main source of income is agriculture.

Kammadam Kaavu at Kammadam and Kunnumkai Makham are the notable religious tourist places in village.
