A BRIEF HISTORY OF THEKKEKARA VILLAGE Before the birth of Kerala State, along with other village, Thekkekara vilage came in to existence, as such it is a very old village having thousands of people belonging to different religion, caste and community, living with fraternity, friendship and harmony. Most of the villagers are agricultural labors. Thekkekara village is a Mavelikkara Taluk adjoining to Mavelikkara municipality where many historical events took place and greatemen born and lived from immemorial ages. It is known in history that Mavelikkara got such name as it was ruled the emperor Mahabali. Mavelikkara is the birth place of A.R.Rajaraja Varma and his entient family known as ‘Sarada Mandiram’; Raja Ravi Varma the world famous Painter is related to Mavelikkara castle. In short Thekkekara village has significant and proud position not only in the Mavelikkara Taluk but in all over Kerala State. The inhabitants are also having pride and self respect. Thekkekara village is a vast and wide one. This village is surrounded by Mavelikkara, Thekkekara Chunakkara, Bharanikkavu, Peringala villages. There are many religious institutions, educational institutions as well as financial institutions like SBI, Union band, Federal bank, Kerala bank, which are helpful to the people of this village in this financial and agricultural assistance ; the main centre in this village is Kurathikad town. The St.Jhons UP School is an entient educational institution in this village. S.N. Central School, N.S.S Higher Secondary School are functioning in a well -to -do manner in this village. The religion institutions like Catholic church, Marthoma church, CSI church, Vathikulam Devi temple, Pallarimangalam Sreekrishna temple, Varenickal Mahadeva temple, Idathittacavu temple,etc are in this village. The most notable trible temple named as ‘Vasoorimala’ is in this village the Kurathikadu Vedar Colony belonging to tribal community is in this village. There are also some ‘Sarapacavu’, ‘Sarpakulam’, sarpa idiols are in various part of this village. Similarly Vathikulam Thakadiyil Nalikett and Ponnezha Puthuppurackal nalukett are well- known in this village. Moreover Prof. Narendra prasad, Cine artist and dramatist is lived in this village and the monument is a cultural centre named ‘Nadaka Kalari’ and library in this village is very helpful to the people.The world famous magician Sri Samraj is also living in this village Briefly the Thekkekara village in Mavelikkara Taluk of alappuzha District is a prominent in all respect and the village people are living in a harmonious way.
