About Village

Ala village is located in Chengannur Taluk of Alappuzha District. It is situated 5KM away from taluk headquarter Chengannur and 55 Km away from district head quarter Alappuzha. The total geographical area of village is 1097 hectres Even though Ala is the Grama Panchayath of Ala village, a small north east portion of the village comes in Puliyoor Panchayath and a little eastern area falls in Mulakuzha Panchayath.

Geography

Ala is a land of small hills and paddy fields. Kodukulanji, a desam in Ala village is one of the highest place in Alappuzha District. Uttharapalli river, a tributary of river Pampa flows through the heart of Ala village and this river is a natural interlinking of Achankovil and Pampa Rivers

Socio-Economic

Ala registered great progress in the socio-economic sectors owing to educational revolution triggered by Christian Missionaries and renaissance leaders. In every 3 kms, there is an educational institution in Ala village. Govt. Higher Secondary School played a pivotal role in the emancipation of underprivileged sections. Progressive political movements and teachings of social reformers immensely contributed in ameliorating the living standards of vulnerable groups. As a sizable number of people are employed in Persian Gulf, foreign remittance accelerates the growth engine of village economy. Ala is a land of communal harmony . Irrespective of caste and religion, all the people participate and celebrate the festivals of Temples and churches.

Ecology

Once Ala village was a green spot. But rapid urbanization and population growth have taken its toll in the health of environment. Paddy cultivation has witnessed a steady decline since the 1980s. Over the last five years, however there have been commendable signs of a revival in rice cultivation. Stringent measures taken under Kerala Paddy and Wet land Act. 2008 against illegal reclamation of paddy lands has helped, to a great extent in protecting the natural reservoir of ground water.

Tourism

Poomalachal Tourism Project is a joint venture of Ala Grama Panchayath and District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC). Poomalachal is located at a distance of 3 km from Chengannur town. It is a water body spreads in Acres, embellished with lotus and water lilies. Poomalachal restoration has given a new impetus and hope for tourism in Chengannur
