About Village

Vallikkunnu is a Village in Tirurangadi Taluk in Malappuram District. It belongs to North Kerala Division . It is located 29 KM towards west from District head quarters Malappuram. 9 KM from Tirurangadi. The village office located near to Tirur- Kozhikkode road at Athanikkal and near to Pachayath office. The village share its boundaries with Ariyallur in the south, Arabikkadal in the west, Kadalundi river in the North and Chelembra and Tenhipalam villages in the east. Vallikkunnu village was a part of Malabar district of Madras presidency in British India.

Demography

As per the 2011 Census, total population of Vallikkunnu village is 25448 with female population of 13429 and male population of 12019.

Geography

Kadalundi river flows through this village and it is one of the longest rivers in Kerala.

Socio-Economic

Recent studies show that youths are pursuing higher education as per their interests and skills rather than works as emigrants.

Ecology

The Kadalundi-Vallikkunnu community reserve is the first community reserve in Kerala and famous for mangrove biome. It is home to various migratory birds during particular seasons and has been declared as a bio-reserve.

Tourism

Nirakkaithakotta, an Ayyappa temple is in Vallikkunnu village. It is 1000 years old and one among the most important Dharma Sastha temple in Malabar region. The Pattulsavam in every Makaram performs in the premises of this temple with special rituals and Seeveli. Somany monkeys are living near this temple. The well which provides the holy water to the temple also have some special features. The holy water from this well which never dry or overflow is believed that the water is from the holy river Ganges. The water in the well never get sunlight. There is a way to this under ground well from inside the temple for collecting the holy water by the priest.
