About Village

Poovarany village is located in Meenachil Tehsil of Kottayam district in Kerala, India. It is situated 8km away from sub-district headquarter Palai and 38km away from district headquarter Kottayam. Formerly under the control of the Meenachil Karthas, it is an agricultural village where most of the people live in peace and happiness.

According to the 2011 census, the population of Poovarani village is about 33877.

Geography

Due to the flat terrain with numerous paddy fields and the sharing of the Meenachillar village boundary, the presence of Ponnozhukum Thodu, water rich and rubber plantations make it a good place to live.

Socio-Economic

The middle rubber cultivators and planter families of Kuruvinakkunnel, Kallivayal and Varakapallil, and the doctor families of Varakapallil and Chembakasseril, the eminent social worker, thinker and genius, the esteemed Joseph Pulikkunnal, former CIAL MD. Mr. VJ Kurian IAS and Mr. Dejo Kappan, Public Worker are some of the prominent individuals and families in this village.

Ecology

The area is gifted due to the presence of paddy fields, rubber plantations, water streams, Meenachil river and fertile soil.

Tourism

Located on the scenic Vayalkara on the Paika Pinnakkanad route, Vilakkumadam Meda is a granary that attracts a large number of tourists. Oshana Mount Heritage, located in the middle of nowhere, is a popular destination for filmmakers and writers alike. It is also known as Ottapalam in Meenachil Taluk as there is a lot of filming going on
