About Village

Valacode is the eastern Village of Punalur Muncipality.Punalur village which spread on both sides of Punalur Suspension bridge was bifurcated in 1984 and Valacode Village was created demarcating the area east of Kallada river and the Village office Valacode started functioning in a rented building in Valacode Jn near Railway overbridge.The office has been shifted to the newly constructed building at Survey 725/1/1 adjoining Kalladayar at Punalur TB Junction since 2000.

Demography

Punalur Muncipality which includes Valacode Village has a population of 66,702. Males constitute 49% of the population and females 51%. Punalur has an average literacy rate of 84%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 85%, and female literacy is 82%. In Punalur, 10% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Geography

Total Area of Valakode village is 1697.15 hectares, out of which 1376.29 hectares of dry land and 181.88 hectares of wet land are taxable land .Most of the area is owned by Chaliyakkara, BB and Goodhope estates. The whole area of ​​this village is uneven, small and large hills.

Socio-Economic

The main agricultural products of this village include rubber, black pepper, and other spices. The chief commodities of export here are the hill products: pineapple, pepper products and timber.

Ecology

Even though it is located near the Western Ghats, Valacode is one of the hottest places in Kerala and during summer temperatures as high as 40 °C (104 °F) have been recorded. Minimum temperatures in January–February on a cloudless day can be as low as 16 °C (61 °F) and maximum in March–April can be as high as 40 °C (104 °F). Because of this, Punalur is also known as "The Hot City Of Kerala".

Tourism

Ancient Suspension bridge and railway bridge constructed under British rule attract tourists.
