Malappuram Village is one among the three villages in Malappuram Municipality. Major part of Malappuram town include in Malappuram Village. Village shares boundary with Melmuri and Anakkayam Villages in the North, Koottilangadi Village in the East, Kodur Village in the South and Panakkad Village in the West. The Village shelter headquartes of District Administration. A wide range of Central, State, Financial, Judicial and Commercial establishments function in Malappuram Village. Positioned along Kozhikode-Palakkad, Manjeri- Tirur and Manjeri- Parappanangadi Highways, the village is easily accessible from many parts of the district. Total land area of the village is 812.3538 hectares. Surrounded with river kadalundi, the village expose spectacular natural beauty.
Demography
According to the 2011 Indian Census, Malappuram had a total population of 101,386, of which 48,957 were males and 52,429 were females. The population within the age range of 0 to 6 years was 14,629. The Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes population was 5,323 and 77 respectively. Malappuram had 19785 households in 2011. The major language spoken in the city is Malayalam. English, Tamil and Hindi are widely understood.
Geography
Malappuram is situated in the mid land area of the state. As the name suggests, it is covered with small mountains of lush greenery, bonded with several freshwater streams flowing through the city. Kadalundi Puzha, a major river in Kerala is flowing around the city. Presence of river also cause flood during monsoon period.
Socio-Economic
Many commercial institutions situated in the village are the backbone of the socio economic life of the people. Many migrant laborers from north, North-west India and Tamil Nadu seek livelihood in the village. Muslim community mixed with Hindu and christian peoples form the population of Malappuram Village. Being urban area, major part of the village is covered with commercial and Govt. establishments. However, the banks of Kadalundi river and hills make the village ecologically important.

Kottakkunnu is a tourist destination in the state of Kerala located at Malappuram. Stationed right at the heart of the city of Malappuram, Kottakkunnu attracts many domestic as well as international tourists. Santhitheeran riverside park also attracts many visitors.
