About Village

Ayroor village established in 1928. The total Area is 2534.4751 Hectare, out of which 2211.1120 hectare is Dry land and 105.5658 hectare is Wet land. The southern side of the village is bordered with Keralas famous River Pampa. This village is completely included in Ayroor Grama Panchayath. There are 27 Polling stations in this village. Community Health Center , Veterinary Hospital, Agricultural Office , Govt. Homeo Dispensary , Village Extension Office, Pathanamthitta District Ayurveda Hospital are the government institutions in this village. Govt. HSS Ayroor, NSS ,HSS Thadiyoor, MTHS Madappara, SNDP VHSS Kanjeettukara, IHRD Applied Science College, Ayroor, NSS TTI Thadiyoor are the main Educational Institutions here. SBI, IOB, KGB, Kerala Bank are the main Banking Institutions . The nearest airports are the Cochin International Airport, located 127 kilometers away, and Trivandrum International Airport, 120 kilometers away.

Geography

Ayroor (also spelled Ayiroor) is located in the western part of Ranni taluk, in the Pathanamthitta district in Kerala state, India. It is bordered by hills and located near the Western Ghats. Ayroor was previously part of Thiruvalla taluk in Alleppey district and is considered part of the Edanadu region in Kerala. The Pamba River flows on the southern side of the village. Two Bridges and an Aqueduct across the river Pampa in Ayroor village area. The scenery from these bridges are very beautiful and fascinating. The main townships are Cherukolpuzha , Thadiyoor and Plankamon.

Socio-Economic

Hinduism and Christianity are the dominant religions in the region, with a similar number of followers. Ayroor village used to be a part of the Erstwhile Travancore kingdom. It is believed that the Kovilans ruled Ayroor in the past.

Ecology

The village is bordered with hilly area except the southern side. The south is border is River Pampa. The middle portion are almost paddy land. A lot of paddy land were done rice cultivation in the past. Hilly area mostly rubber trees. Canal irrigation is done in most part of the village. All types of vegetable cultivation and crops , coconut, tapioca etc are doing here. Most of the people are farmers in this peaceful land. A lot of people are working abroad and being part of the states economy.

Tourism

Cherukolpuzha Hindu Matha Maha Mandalam (Convention), One of the biggest HIndu convention in Kerala is being done in Cherukolpuzha, on the banks of Pampa River in February, every year . Ayroor Chathayam Boat Race - Which is starting in Puthiyakav Temple , in Pampa River in connection with Onam festival. Thiruvabharana Procession is also passing through ayroor and which is keeping one inght at Puthiyakav devi temple. Ayroor Puthiyakav Devi Temple - One of the Oldest and famous temples in Kerala. Kathakali Gramam - The District kathakali club doing kathakali training centre here and every year a week long kathakali promotion is being done in the river bank of Pampa. Karmel Agathi Mandiram - A non profitable charitable organisation is an asylum to the destitute and old age people. A lot of inmates are living peacefully there.
