About Village

The areas including Mangattidam Village were under the control of Veera Pazhassi who fought against foreign domination. Mangattidam, the birthplace of Kerala Varma Pazhashiraja, is a place rich in history and culture. After the heroic death of Pazhassi, the areas including Mangattidam Village, which was completely under British rule, became part of Paduvilai Village. Mangattidam became an independent village in the 1930s with the reserve. There are records of struggles against foreign domination in the region even before the national movement that emerged in the 1930s. Most of the land in the village was under the control of the landlords of Peringali Arayidathu, Sankaranelloor Devaswom, Paduvilakkavu Devaswom, Randupura and Paduvilan Chandroth.

Demography

Mangattidam is a village in Thalassery taluk, Kannur district in the state of Kerala, India. Until 1995, the village office was housed in a rented building at Ayyappanthodu. The village built its own building in 1995. Mangattidam Village consists of 9 desoms viz. The total area of ​​the village is 16.38 sq km. Mangattidam Village is located at a distance of about 8 km from Kannur International Airport. The main roads of Thalassery -Valavupara Road, Kinavakkal - Vengadu Road and Anjarakandi Road pass through the village. The population of the village was 18,627 at the 2011 census. Of these, 9825 are females and 8805 are males. Of these, 2568 are illiterate. According to the census, 267 persons belonging to Scheduled Castes and 84 persons belonging to Scheduled Tribes reside in the village.

The East India Company captured the territory, including Mangattidam, from the Kottayam dynasty and took control of the company. In the feudal society, untouchability and untouchability and caste system were prevalent at that time. The situation was not different even after independence. It is the result of the efforts of many social reformers and social reform movements that have been able to eradicate immorality from society. There are four lakh housing colonies in Mangattidam village. In Mangattidam village, Hindus, Muslims and Christians live in harmony. Agriculture is the main source of livelihood for the people. Chathankulam, Vattipramkulam and Sankaranelloor Ambalakulam are important water bodies. The Pazhassi Irrigation Canal passes through almost all the areas of Mangattidam village. The Vattipram, Kurumpukkal and Ampilad areas of the village were once famous for their granite industry. The agricultural sector in the village has flourished through a number of activities. The main fields of Sankaranelloor, Koilot, Vattipram and Kirachi are located in the village.
