Mangaladevi Temple

Chithra pournamihe ancient temple of Mangala Devi is hidden in the dense woods at the top of a peak 1337 m above sea level. The temple is built in the traditional Kerala style of architecture. Visitors are allowed here only on the Chithra Pournami festival day held during the month of April / May. The peak commands a panoramic view of the eastern slopes of the ghats and some hill villages of Tamil Nadu.

Ottakathalamedu

Ottakathalamedu is a popular trek in Thekkady. The name, Ottakathalamedu, literally translates to ‘the cliff of the camel’s back.’ A short drive or bike ride from Thekkady, the summit of this cliff offers trekkers a real treat. From the top, you will see an expansive view of Periyar Tiger Reserve, Kumily, the Spice Gardens, the Mangaladevi Temple and even some distant villages of Tamil Nadu.
