Thakazhy is a village in Alappuzha district in the Indian state of Kerala. It is part of the Kuttanad region bound by the backwaters and is located on the banks of the River Pamba. It is the birthplace of the famous writer Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai, who was popularly known just by his village name. Thakazhi was formed in the 11th century by the Chembakassery dynasty and laterannexed to Travancore. Although no monuments of royal rule remain here. Historical records show that Thakazhi became an important center of Buddhism in the early centuries of the spread of Buddhism in Kerala. It is believed that the Adicherans, who were Buddhists, ruled from Kuttanad. The Ayyappa temple chains here testify that there were many Buddhist temples here at that time. The range of Ayyappa temples extends to Sabarimala. Thakazhi Temple is the second Sabarimala of the Ayyappa devotees. Historians believe that Sreemulavasam, a Buddhist pilgrimage center mentioned in the Paliyam inscription of the Ay king Vikramaditya Varaguna, was located in Kuttanad between Alappuzha and Ambalapuzha.(six kilometers east from Ambalapuzha at Thakazhi in Allappuzha district) Thakazhy is an agricultural village entirely. It is part of the rice paddy fields of Kuttanad where rice is grown in low-lying fields by pumping water out. Coconut, plantain etc. are also grown in the region. There are no industries, other than the cottage industries making bamboo articles, bricks, etc. Thakazhi and its temples were the cultural center of Kuttanad. The presence of Kunchan Nambiar, a teacher of many folk arts such as thullal, helped to develop the temple arts here. When King Chembakassery banned Kunchan Nambiar and Thullalkala in Ambalappuzha on theThakazhi is also famous as the land of Kathakali. Kathakali was practiced in most of the temples here. Thottam Sankaran Namboodirippad, Guru Kunchukuruppu, Thakazhi Kuttan Pillai and Thakazhi Sivasankaranarayanan have made notable contributions in the field of storytelling. Padayani, the ritual art of the temples here, placed a lot of emphasis on social criticism. There is an argument that Kunchan Nambiar gave birth to the Thullal movement inspired by the Padayani. complaint of the Chakyans, Nambiar got the stage in Thakazhi. Temple arts like Koothu, Koodiyattam and Velakali have been popular here for a long time. Work is still being done here. n 1894, during the reign of the then King of Travancore, Sreemoolam Thirunal Rama Varma, he started cultivating forest and barren fallow lands. In 1974, Karinilam was declared a Special Area. The Karinila Development Agency was formed in 1992. But the work of the agency was not as effective as intended. Agricultural crises have become commonplace due to floods, droughts, floods and pest infestations. National Waterway No 3 runs from Kollam to Kottapuram and passes through Thakazhi Village. Area of Thakazhi village is 27.8 sq km; Number of wards: 13 The only railway station in Kuttanad is at Thakazhi. Most of the locals are farmers or agricultural laborers.
