About Village

Valakom is a village in the Ernakulam district of Kerala, India. It is located in the Muvattupuzha taluk, 8 kilometres west of the Muvattupuzha town. The National Highway 85 passes through Valakom.

Demography

According to the 2011 census of India, Valakam has 4012 households and has Population 15998. The literacy rate of the village is 88.57%

Geography

This is a Rural area. The Valakom Village jurisdiction is boundaried on the Northern side by Mazhuvannur, Velloorkunnam Villages. Eastern side by Velloorkunnam , Maradi Villages Southern side by Muvattupuzha River, Western side by Ikaranad North, Mazhuvannur Villages.Highest point in Village jurisdiction is Pottumugal Hill which is situated in the middle portion. Majority of the Village jurisdiction consists of Plain lands and mostly paddy fields.

Socio-Economic

Majority people are depended on farming and cultivation as the lands are very much fertile due to the sedimentary deposits made by the Muvattupuzha River flowing through the Southern side and its tributaries are utilised for irrigation purpose in the form of Muvattupuzha Valley Irrigation Project. Another prime occupation of the local people are clay pot making which is a small scale industry here.Diary farming, Poultry farming, Fish farming is also done on a smaller scale.

Ecology

Mostly surrounded by Paddy and wet land fields. Consists of several small streams. Nature of land is mostly Laterite soil.
