Veeramala Hills Cheruvathur.

Veeramala Hill is a small mountain situated at Cheruvathur in the Kasargode district of Kerala.On the Hill top there is the ruins of a Dutch fort built in the 18th century. There is a picnic spot from where the Kariangode river and surroundings can be viewed. It is characterized by its rich biodiversity.

About Village

The etymology of the name has its origin in the Malayalam words "cheriya pathu ooru" which means ten small places. Now the village has been bifurcated and formed a new Village named Thuruthi in 2020. The village is resurveyed as Block No 61 which include Resurvey No 1 to 449. The extent of the village is 936.4857 Ha. The Village office Building is situated near Railway station Cheruvathur. New Smart Building was inaugurated on 04/11/2020.

Demography

As per the Census India 2011, Cheruvathur has population of 13701 of which 6340 are males and 7361 are females. The population of children between age 0-6 is 1664 which is 12.12 % of total population. The sex-ratio of Cheruvathur is around 1161 compared to 1084 which is average of Kerala state. The literacy rate of Cheruvathur is 80.86% out of which 83.78% males are literate and 78.35% females are literate.

Geography

Cheruvathur is a cosy small town in the Kasaragod district of Kerala, located only 40 kilometers south from the District Head Quarters. It is Located at Latitude-12.2, Longitude-75.1. Cheruvathur is sharing border with Thimiri Village to the East, Pilicode Village to the South, Thuruthi Village to the West and Thejaswini River to the North.

Economy of Cheruvathur is characterized by agricultural and rural activities. Many people depending on Tapping Toddy, Fishing, Beedi rolling and construction work for their lively hood. Cheruvathur is also known for its religious harmony and cultural heritage. Cheruvathur is a Land of Kabadi and Theyyam. Cheruvathur Veerabhadra Temple is very sacred for devotees.
