About Village

The birth place and resting place of AKG, who is a freedom fighter and former opposition leder in loksabha is situated in Makreri village. The legend says that, when lord sreerama starts searching of his wife seetha, the place Peralassery was found as a holy place. He decided to dedicate idol there. Beacause of lord hanuman was late to bring the idol, Rama took his own bangle(വള) and consecrated there. So the place got the name Peruvalassery(പെരുവളശ്ശേരി). It was shortened to Peralassery(പെരളശ്ശേരി ). Hanuman consecrated the idol brought by him in Makreri, the place just near to Peruvalassery. Beacause of Markkadan (Monkey) consecrated the idol, the place got name Markkadassery. Then it was shortened to Makreri.

Demography

The boundary of Makreri village includes 4 to 13 wards in Peralassery panchayath with 15,500 population nearly. 8,200 of them are Women and 7,300 are Men.

Geography

The Anjarakkandi river flows through the south-east side of this village, approximately in 4 kilomeeter. Besides this, pond, brooks, fields, nearly 10 temples, hilly areas are situated in this village.

Socio-Economic

Farmers, Beedi workers, Handloom workers (in name only) and Construction workers, Business person, Government employees etc are living in this village. Majority of them are middle classes. About 2% extreme poor people are living here.

Ecology

There is Anjarakkandi river flows, in 4 kilomeeter, through the south-east side of this village. Besides this pond, brook, fields, nearly 10 temples, hilly areas etc are situated. Historic Peralassery temple pond, Makreri temple pond Mundalur pond etc are here. Besides these,some Mangroves are protected in the shore of Anjarakkandi river.

Tourism

In this village, construction work of AKG Musium is started about 3 acres of the shore of Anjarakkandi river. Near to this, there is a hanging bridge cross this Anjarakkandi river. Famous Peralassery temple, Makreri temple, Theyyakkavus etc can be included in tourism sector. In the memory of famous Muscian Dhakshina Moorthy, there is a musium constructed in Makreri temple.
