About Village

Manukuladichamangalam village, now known as Nemom Village has a historical relation with the Great Travancore dynasty. Traditionally the Nemom village officer receives the procession and idols of Navarathri festivals (Goddes Sarsawathy, Kumaraswami & Mothooti Nanga) at the entry point of the Trivandrum City. Also the concert related to the well known Kaliyoottu festival of Vellayani Devi Temple is held at Nemom Village office. The idol adorned with sacred ornaments is worshipped at the village office from the period of Travancore era.

Geography

Nemom Village office is situated near NH 66 at Nemom signal junction nearest to the Nemom Police station and opposite to Nemom post office. The jurisdiction of Nemom Village office is extended to an area of 5km. Karamana River flows from the north east and Kannukalichal minor irrigation canal joins the Karamana River at the south west of Nemom village. Pallichal village and Kalliyur village covers the land boundary.

Socio-Economic

The population in Nemom village comprises of both Educated and professionally qualified people. The main source of income in earlier days were generated mainly from agriculture which turned into business as well as salaried jobs due to the establishment of Industrial Estate, CSIR – National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (NIIST) and opportunities arose in both government and private Institutions. Demographically Hindus hold the major share of the population followed by Muslims and Christians. It is always seen that all the religious festivals are celebrated with a communal harmony.

Ecology

Earlier Nemom village was purely a Panchayath area with well known paddy fields like Punchakkari, Nilamakkari paddy fields. Apart from that Canals and many other places made the village green and beautiful. Once the life style of people had changed and agriculture is almost abandoned, those paddy fields were disappeared and most of the land had converted for the requirements of industrial revolution and paved the way to modern households, flats, Industries, roads and related developments.
