About Village

Ulloor village office is temporarily shifted to Ulloor UPSchool building near Elamkavu Temple at Ulloor Junction for constructing SMART village office. The construction is going to be carried out from Plan Fund. This is a new Scheme for construction of SMART Village Offices. This Mission Mode Project is designed by Government of Kerala to render quality services to public utilizing benefits of digital technologies. Ulloor village is a part of Thiruvananthapuram Taluk Thiruvananthapuram Revenue Division of Thiruvananthapuram Revenue District. Ulloor Village consists of five Survey Blocks. Town survey was done in Blocks 1 to 4. Block 21 which formerly was part of Ulloor Grama Panchayat constitute major portion of the village. At present entire area in Ulloor Village comes under Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation limit. There are four Municipal Wards in Ulloor Village, namely, Ulloor, Nalanchira, Edavacode and Mannanthala. Important locations in Ulloor Village are Parottukonam, Kariyam, Aruviyodu, Mukkola, Chenthi, Anandavalleeswaram, Chenchery, Thattinakam, Vayalarikam, Kesavadasapuram, Paruthippara, Pananvila, Nalanchira, Mannanthala, Pongummoodu, Ulloor, Edavacodu, Chakkalamukku, Kallampalli, Sreekayram.

Demography

Population of the village is 35607 out of which 17242 Males and 18365 Females as per 2011 census. Hindu, Christian, Muslim are main religions being followed. Malayalam is the common language. Tamil and English speaking people are there in this village. Migrant labourers from North Eastern part of India is commonly seen in this village. They are known as Adhithi Thozhilalis They speak different languages and follow different customs and rituals.

Geography

The landscape of Village territory is very nice having planes and small hills An average altitude of Ulloor is estimated to 18 Metres above sea level. Some part of low planes are prone to flooding at rainy seasons. A stream named Amayizhanchan Thodu flows through this village which falls into Akkulam Lake A beautiful rocky hill is there at Pottayil Mannanthala Many ponds are protected in this village Vayambakonam Chira at Mannanthala is an icon in this class. No Reserved Forests are there in this village

Socio-Economic

People having different faiths and beliefs live in this village up keeping peace and communal harmony . Literacy rate is very high. Professionals from many fields especially from Medical and IT professions live in this village. Majority of people work in informal sector. Skilled and unskilled labourers are common in this village. Most of them are engaged in self employed entrepreneurship. A small scale industrial area is managed by SIDCO at Parottukonam. KSEB substation established at Paruthippara is the main source of electric power supply agency to the entire city. Water pumping units of Kerala Water Authority at Pongummood and Mannathala are engaged in supplying drinking water throughtout the village. The Government Press Mannanthala is one of the leading Printing Presses in the State which undertakes quality printing work jobs.

Ecology

Natural vegetation of Ulloor village is unique. Ulloor is GREEN. Several ponds are protected in this village. A stream called Amayizhanchan Thodu fertiles the village. Rocky hill at Mannanthala is currently protected and managed by NCC. Vertical expansion of habitats is a special attraction in this village. Extensive verdure of coconut palm trees keeps cool and shady climate in this village through out the year. Several ponds and water bodies are being protected in this village. They constitute majority of natural eco system. Different species of flora and fauna are seen here. Wet lands are being strictly conserved with the support of public.

Tourism

Ulloor Palace and Ulloor Sree Bala Subramanya Swami Temple at Kochulloor uphold the heritage of erstwhile Travancore royalty. Anandavalleeswaram Devi Temple at Mannanthala established by social reformer Sreenarayana Guru is a symbol of stunning social renaissance in Ulloor. Many other Tourist Places like Napier Museum, Zoo, Observatory, Akkulam Lake etc., are in the vicinity of Ulloor Village.
