It is a suburban town of neighbouring Tanur Municipality and comes under Tanur Block as well as Tanur (State Assembly constituency) and Ponnani (House of Parliament Constituency) . It falls under Tirur Taluk. This village is situated just 7 Km north from Trur Railway Station and Tirur Town. This village contain two amsom, 1. Tanalur with survey No. 1 to 441 and 2. Keraladheeswarapuram with survey No. 1 to 295.

The southern stretch connects to Cochin and Trivandrum. Highway No.966 goes to Palakkad and Coimbatore. The nearest airport is at Kozhikode. The nearest major railway station is at Tirur, Tanur. Thunjan Parambu in Tirur in Malappuram is the birthplace of Thunchath Ezhuthachan, the father of the Malayalam language. A memorial ( Thunjan Smarakom ) for the great poet has been built at Thunjan Parambu in 1964. This a very beautiful place just 5 km south from tanalur village. Ezhuthachan is considered as the Father of the Malayalam language, because of his devotion to the language, his influence on the acceptance of the Malayalam alphabet, and his extremely popular poetic works in Malayalam. The kilippaattu style in Malayalam was introduced by Ezhuthachan. Conolly Canal, sometimes spelled as Canoly Canal, is the part of the West coast canal network of Kerala and the canal was constructed by combining the rivers and streams along the coast with the intention of creating a vast waterway from Kozhikode to Kochi, which passes through this village.
