About Village

Koodaranji village was established on 08/11/1985 and located in the south east side of Thamarassery Taluk of Kozhikode district, which was formed by dividing Thiruvambady village of koodaranhi desam and has an area of 15569.01 acres of land. This village is the second largest village in Thamarassery Taluk and lion part of the land consists in unsurveyed. North and east sides of this village includes scenic hills and mountains of Western Ghats. The village office building was constructed in the property donated by Koodaranhi church. The building was inaugurated on 1986 by the Hon’ble Minister of Revenue Sri. P. J. Joseph. This village consists of a population of 19970 out of which male 10048 and female 9922. After 31 years of operation in the former building, on 23/10/2017, a new building for village office is constructed near to the former building and it was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Minister of Revenue Sri. E. Chandrasekharan. Koodranhi village is very famous for its food and commercial crops. The migrated farmers from Travancore and adjacent districts have donated their extreme efforts for the progress of the hilly areas of this village. Agriculture is the backbone of this village and now a day’s different types of farms sprang up everywhere in this village. This village is made up of middle income earners including Scheduled Cast, Scheduled Tribes and migrant farmers. As a developing village, Industrial and commercial sector is in its infancy stage in this area, and it has wide untapped natural beauty tourism areas especially at north and eastern side. This village covers the area of 14 wards of Koodaranji Gramma Panchayat and cover 20 KM travelling distance from east to west end. Most of this village covers hilly areas where only KSRTC bus services are available. The Kozhikode-Malappuram district boundary situated at the eastern boundary of the village. Koodaranji, Pushpagiri, Anayodu, Panakkachal, Kalpini, Thazhekoodanji, Pattoth, Kalpuru, Kolothumkadavu, Koottakkara, Mankayam, Maramchatti, Koompara, Anakkallampara, Peedikapara, Kallipara, Kakkadampoyil, Kallampodu, Perumpoola are the important areas of this village. The flora and fauna of this village gives special treat to tourists who visit these places. Almost brooks and springs originated from Western Ghats blossoms the greenery of this village. The hilly areas of this village situated about 2100 meter above the sea level, and the village area is surrounded with the villages of Vettilappara, Akampadam of Malappuram district, Kumaranelloor and Thiruvambadi of Kozhikode district. The people in this village are industrious and peaceful and they are working for the progress of the society.

Koodaranhi village consists of a population of 19970 out of which male 10048 and female 9922.

Geography

The geography of Koodaranji village can be divided into three. 1. Steeply sloping hills, 2 Steep hilly areas, 3. Normal flat valleys. 1. Steeply sloping hills:- More than half of the total area of the village is sloping hills to the east. Forest land mainly situated in this area. The rest of the land is under cultivation of most crops like spices, pepper, jathi, coconut, coffee, ginger and tapiocaetc.. 2. Steep hilly areas:- About half of the land holding in this village belongs to this category. There are small forests and areas with rubber, coconut, jathi, cumin, pepper, cashew, coffee, cocoa and ginger, tapioca, banana, turmeric, turmeric and gram. 3. Normal flat valleys:- This is the most fertile area in the village. This area is about 500 hectares, and it is the most densely populated. Different types of food crops and commercial crops are widely grown.

Socio-Economic

The migration to Koodaranji area was commenced durig 1946, before that, some Vanavasi people were settled on the top of the Panakkachal hills and nearby places. The migratory history of Koodaranji is an exciting story of adventures. The first settlers purchased land from the landlords and cut down the forest and started cultivation. During the migration period, farmers faced sever threat from malaria, the deadly contagious decease. It is known that during 1949, there were 125 families lived in the Koodaranji. Being the forest area, koodaraji has full of wild animals, and the migrants were forced to live in the tree houses. The st. Sebastians church koodaranji was the first religeous institution in Koodaranji, during 1949 st.sebastians LP school was established, Koodaranji High School was started in 1962 and in 1968 Koodaranji Service Society was upgraded to Service Co-operative Bank. The electric power connected to this village during 1970-72, and it took a few more year for tar roads to construct in koodaranji. Bus services were started first in Koombara and later in Koodaranji. Most of the people in this village are peasants, Industry and service sector is still in its infancy stage. Durig 1967 St. sebastians mission hospital established in church building, later community health center started under the halteh department. Koodaranji Grama Panchayat was started in 1969. The migrants from various parts of kerala are the sculptures who enthusiastically hard worked for the enormous progress of this village.

Ecology

Koodaranji Village is located about 38 km northeast of Kozhikode City. It receives between 350 and 400 cm of rainfall per year.During summer this village area faces dought. Places like KakkadamPoyil, Poovaranthodu and Nayadampoyil Medappara are less hot in summer. Generally comfortable climate are the peculiar characteristics of these high lands. The peaks of the hill in this village are up to 1842 m from the sea level. The soil in the village is very fertile and rich in various organic matter.

Tourism

Kakkadampoyil, Nayadampoyil, Poovarathodu, Medappara are the some of the import tourist places in koodaranji village. Hundreds of tourists come to Koodaranji Village and enjoy the beauty of the Western Ghats. Numerous resorts are located in these areas. The hills in these areas provide fresh air that is not polluted at all and provide an opportunity to enjoy the breathtaking scenery. These hills are located at a height that can be seen from the clear sky to the calicut sea. Koodaranji Village is a village with about 3200 acres of forest land. These forest lands are home to a wide variety of flora and fauna. The village has many beautiful rivers that originate from the forest.
