About Village

The village got the name from the combination of two words - Kandal and Oor. Kandal means mangrove forest which was once abundant in these region with its biodiversity of various flora and fauna. In Tamil language, oor means place or village. Tamil was spoken throughout Kerala, once. It is situated near SreeDharma Sastha Temple, Pullukulangara 3km away from Kayamkulam town. Kandalloor village became part of Kayamkulam kingdom which was later annexed to Travancore kingdom during the reign of king Marthanda Varma.

Demography

According to 2001 census, Total population -19925, Female-0035, Male -9890 .About 85% of population belongs to Hindu community and 12% Muslim community and remaining Christian community.

Geography

Kandalloor village is surrounded by Arattupuzha village towards west, Muthukulam village towards North, Keerikkad and Puthuppally village towards East, Arattupuzha and Puthuppally towards South. It is near to Kayamkulam kayal. Puzhukkathode, Valiyzthode and Palathumpattu thode are the main watertributeries of Kandalloor village whichplay main role in agricultural development.

Socio-Economic

Kandalloor is the birth place of Sri. Mangulam Vishnu Namboodiri, famous Kathakali artist,who was the founder of Samastha kerala Kathakali Vidhyalayam. It is the platform of many art and cultural organisation includes Ananda Nirthakalanilayam, Kathakali vidhayalayam etc. Famous wax statue artist Kandalloor Sunil is the native of this village. Majority of defence personenls from South India working in Military , Paramilitary force and GREF are from this village.

Kochiyude jetti palam and Valiyazheekkakkal beach at Arattupuzha village are the nearest tourist places.
