About Village

Triprangottur village is one of the largest villages in Thalassery taluk. In 1857, during the change of government from the British East India Company to the British Queen, the first Revenue Concert was started at Poyilur under the Kottayam Tukkidi in the Malabar District of the State of Madras. Thriprangottur Village came into existence in 1962 as one of the village reorganizations which was divided into Poyilur and Thriprangottur in the first period. The old building at Thendaparambu was demolished and a new building was inaugurated on the site in 2019. Poilur is historically important. The history of the formation of a Janpath dates back to before the 17th century. The red tomb found in the backyard of the house at Thekkayil in North Poyilur is a symbol of ancient civilization and the arrow and bow and other symbols inscribed on the rock in the eastern forest of Poyilur are a sign of the conquest of ancient human beings. The eastern hills, the swamps and the local fish stocks in the description of the Kolathiri land under the Ezhimala mouse family mentioned in the Sangamakala works may be the vast area of Poilur in the Triprangottur region. Later it became the battleground of Tipu and Veera Pazhassi. During Tipu war, the Pattani army reached Poilur. At that time the Mysore army was stopped by the Nair soldiers there. According to legends, the late Vettakorumakan, a Nair general and Pattani general, was captured near the temple and killed by the Nair army. Poilur Madappura Utsavam is a famous festival in Thalassery taluk. Remains of an old mosque can be seen at Pallichal, a peacock habitat about 500 meters from the Poilur Madappura. The Vazhamala Narikkottumala valley in Poilur is rocky. The land of Poyilur is historically unmatched by any other place, such as Vimanapara, which tells the story of Kattan and Kattathi, Kattathipara, the rock that fell from the hands of a woman, and Akkamkothi rock, which was marked by the British during the survey. Narikottumala is the abode of the Kurichis, the descendants of Thalakkal Chanthu, the warlord of Pazhassithampuran and his followers. You can see the jungles near the Kannavam forest. It is famous for the journey of King Pazhassi and his warriors from Narikkottumala through the Kannavam forest to the forests of Wayanad. The Aiyar Thanni, the source of the Mayyazhi river, is located on the Vazhamala, which overlooks the Narikkot hill. This is also the source of the Kallikandi River. Poilur is the land of Poorakali artists. Nellikool Ammananthi Govindan is a famous Pooram playwright. Kannan, a native of Poilur, was the father of the Urachery Gurunathans of Chokli who taught Herman Gundert Malayalam. Vilakottur in Triprangottur village is famous for its crops. Until the first decades of the twentieth century, the people of the Poilur Vilakottur area depended on the Parakkadavu Nadapuram markets, the commercial centers of Kadathanad. Kadavathoor is a place where the Mayyazhi River shares with Kadathanad Kollam. The famous Kurulikavu festival is one of the important festivals of the region. The five-decade-old Kadavathoor Juma Masjid is also famous. Kadavathoor, also known as the Land of Passes, was the main gateway to Ponniyam Kalari and the Kottiyoor Vaisakhi festival. The Kallikandi river, which originates from Vazhamala, joins the Mahipuzha river at Kadavathoor.
