Village was formed on 01/01/1970.It was one of the Taluks during British rule.Kadalayi sree krishna temple situates in this village.The Palace of Kolathiris were in Chirakkal. Kolathiri were also known as Chirakkal Raja . The southern branch of this family ruled over Venad and is today known as the Travancore Royal Family.Total literacy rate of Chirakkal is 96.05% Former Chief Minister of Kerala Shri K. Karunakaran was born in Chirakkal in 1918. Chirakkal Chira which is situated in the limit of Chirakkal Village is a famous for its natural beauty.It is believed that Chirakkal Kizhakkekara Mathilakam Sree Krishna Temple was the place from where Cherussery wrote his famous literary work Krishnagatha .
